I am the person who answers the phone

What I do on your move: I take the call, I write the estimate, I confirm the access with your building or your gate, and I am on the job. Nothing is passed to a subcontractor you have not met, and there is no dispatcher between you and the person responsible.

How the price works, in one paragraph: the crew is hourly with a 3-hour minimum plus 1 hour of travel, the truck and its fuel are inside that hourly rate rather than billed beside it, and the drive between your two addresses is on the clock and doubled, which California requires of every mover in the state on every hourly local move. Stairs, long carries and lift waits cost time, never a fee. The whole of it is on the estimate before you agree to anything.

Nothing here is a copy of how we work back east. The permit is issued by a different body, the tariff caps what I may charge, and drive time is billed differently. I read the rules before I opened rather than after a customer found them for me.

Languages

I work in English and Russian — the call, the estimate, the paperwork, whichever you prefer. Part of the crew speaks Ukrainian. In a metro with one of the largest Slavic communities in the country, being able to arrange a move in your own language should not be unusual, and I have not found many local movers who offer it.

What I will not tell you

I will not print a permit number I do not have. In California a household mover is permitted by the California Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS), Division of Household Movers; ask me on the phone where my application stands and you will get a straight answer, including if the answer is "not yet". I will not publish insurance limits until they are worth publishing, and I will not show you a star rating for this branch, because this branch has not earned one yet.

I also will not promise an exact final total on an hourly job. What I promise is that the rate does not move once we start, that the lines on the estimate are the only lines on the invoice, and that you pay for the hours the work took.
