Fair Oaks is small, hilly in places, and split between the old village near the river and the newer subdivisions east of Sunrise Boulevard. The two halves are different jobs. Around the village, streets narrow and driveways slope; out towards Madison and Hazel, the access is straightforward suburban. We ask which one you are in before quoting hours, because the walk and the slope are what change the number.

The village is a different job from the subdivisions
Near the old village the lots are irregular, some driveways are steep and a few properties are set below the road. That is normal work, but it is slower work, and an estimate written without asking will be short. Out east the streets are wide and the driveways are flat.
Slopes and steps cost time, not fees
A sloped drive means the truck parks at the top and the crew walks further; steps down to a front door mean the same thing again. Both go into the estimate as hours. There is no stairs fee and no long-carry fee here or anywhere else on this site.
Fair Oaks to Carmichael is one of the few short hops
At roughly four miles it falls under California’s five-mile threshold, so the drive time is billed once rather than twice. Almost everything else from here — Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom — clears the threshold and is doubled, as the tariff requires.
Summer heat and an early start
The valley runs past 100°F for weeks at a time. We start early in summer, which is easier on the crew and your furniture, and finishes the job in fewer billable hours.
How a move here is charged
One hourly rate with the truck inside it. The minimum is 3 hours of work plus 1 hour of travel — $516 with two movers, at $129 an hour.
California bills that drive twice over — Maximum Rate Tariff 4, Item 36. It applies to every hourly local move, whatever the distance. It is the state tariff rather than our surcharge, and it is on the estimate before you book.

My driveway is steep. Is that a problem?
Not a problem, but it is time. The truck parks where it is safe and the crew walks the difference, which is counted in the estimated hours rather than added as a fee. Tell us when you book and the estimate will already include it.
Do you serve Fair Oaks Village and the newer parts equally?
Yes, and we quote them differently, because the access genuinely differs. The village asks for more care and sometimes a smaller truck.
Is the drive to Carmichael billed twice?
No — the two are about four miles apart, under the five-mile threshold, so it is billed once. Fair Oaks to Sacramento or Folsom clears the threshold and is billed twice under Maximum Rate Tariff 4.
Can you pack as well as move?
Yes, whole-home or just the kitchen and the fragile things. Packing is charged at its own hourly rate, and materials you keep are quoted separately from the labour.
