Orangevale was an orange and olive colony before it was a suburb, and the shape of that is still on the ground: larger lots than its neighbours, deep setbacks, gravel and dirt drives on some streets, and remnant orange and olive trees along the older avenues. It sits on rolling ground at the foot of the Sierra foothills, and about three quarters of its 35,500 residents own their homes. For a mover the defining fact is simple — the walk from where the truck can stand to where your furniture is tends to be longer here than anywhere else in the metro.

The long carry is the job here

Deep lots and long driveways mean the crew walks further per box than almost anywhere else nearby. That walk is counted as hours in the estimate. It is never a long-carry fee, because a fee hides the size of the problem and hours show it — and once you can see it, you can shorten it by staging boxes nearer the road.

Some driveways will not take a twenty-six-foot truck

On the older colony streets a drive can be gravel, soft after rain, or too narrow to turn in. We will look at it before the day rather than discover it on the morning, and if the answer is that the truck parks on the road, that is fine — it is just more walking, and the estimate should already say so.

Orangevale to Fair Oaks or Citrus Heights is short

Both are close enough that the drive is a small part of the day, though most address pairs still clear California’s five-mile line and are billed at double as the tariff requires. The run into Sacramento is around twenty miles and it shows on the estimate as a real number.

Sheds, workshops and the things in them

Bigger lots come with more outbuildings, and a shed with twenty years of tools in it is a genuine part of the load. Mention it when you ask for the estimate. It is one of the few things that reliably turns a comfortable day into a long one.

How a move here is charged

One hourly rate with the truck inside it. The minimum is 3 hours of work plus 1 hour of travel — $516 with two movers, at $129 an hour.

California bills that drive twice over — Maximum Rate Tariff 4, Item 36. It applies to every hourly local move, whatever the distance. It is the state tariff rather than our surcharge, and it is on the estimate before you book.

Rates: $129 an hour for two movers, $179 for three, $219 for four.

Questions people ask

My driveway is long and unpaved. Will you still come?

Yes. If the truck cannot safely get up it, it parks on the road and we carry the difference, and that walk is in the estimate as hours before you book. What we will not do is take the truck somewhere it might sink or scrape and then argue about it afterwards.

Is there a long-carry charge?

No. There is no long-carry fee, no stairs fee and no lift-wait fee on this site. Every one of those is time, and time is what the hourly estimate is made of. It is easier to check and harder to inflate.

Can you empty a shed or a workshop too?

Yes, and it is worth telling us how full it is when you ask for the price. Outbuildings are the single most common reason an Orangevale estimate needs an extra mover.

How does the drive to Sacramento get charged?

Around twenty miles, and California requires the driving time between the two addresses to be billed twice on every hourly local move, whatever the distance. That is Item 36 of Maximum Rate Tariff 4. It is on the written estimate, in hours, before you agree to anything.
