Elk Grove is the easiest access in the metro and the longest drive in it. Almost the whole city went up from the late 1980s onward — it was the fastest-growing city in the United States in 2004–05 — so you get wide streets, flat driveways, attached garages and three- and four-bedroom houses with more in them than people expect. That combination means the hours are usually driven by volume rather than by access. What does change the number is the distance: the city sits ten to fifteen miles south of central Sacramento, well clear of the five-mile line, so the drive is billed at double under the state tariff. We say that before you book, not on the day.

A newer house is usually a bigger job, not a smaller one
Access here is as good as it gets: level drives, wide roads, garages you can back a truck up to. The hours instead come from how much there is. A four-bedroom Laguna house with a full garage and a loft is routinely a four-mover day, and quoting it as a two-mover job to look cheap only means running over.
The drive to Sacramento is doubled, and it is a real drive
Ten to fifteen miles on State Route 99 or Interstate 5, and Maximum Rate Tariff 4 Item 36 requires the driving time between your two addresses to be billed twice over on every hourly local move, whatever the distance. On an Elk Grove to midtown move that is a visible line, so it belongs on the estimate rather than in a surprise.

Laguna to east Elk Grove, or Old Town to Franklin, stays close enough that the drive is a small part of the day. If both addresses are in the city, the hours are almost entirely loading and unloading, which is the part you can control by having boxes closed before we arrive.

How much does a move within Elk Grove cost?

Why is the drive to Sacramento charged twice?

Do you move the garage as well?
Yes, and it is worth saying up front how full it is. Garages are the part that most often turns a six-hour estimate into an eight-hour day, and we would rather quote it right than explain it afterwards.
Can you do Elk Grove to the Bay Area?
