Roseville is the largest city in Placer County and it reads as three different moving jobs. The old downtown around Vernon Street has narrow streets and older houses. East Roseville, which filled in after Interstate 80 was completed, is standard post-war suburbia. And the newer west and north sides — the growth between 1985 and 2000 that turned a railway town into a city of nearly 150,000 — are wide streets and large tract homes. Crossing a county line changes nothing about the price: the same hourly rate applies, and the same state tariff.

Placer County does not mean a different price
People ask this often, because Roseville and Rocklin are outside Sacramento County. The hourly rate is the same, and Maximum Rate Tariff 4 is a state rule, so double drive time applies here exactly as it does in Sacramento. What actually changes the number is that the drive from central Sacramento is around twenty miles, and every one of those minutes is billed twice.
The old downtown is a narrow-street job
Around Vernon Street the houses are older, the streets are tighter and parking a twenty-six-foot truck sometimes means walking further than either of us would like. That walk is time, and it goes into the estimate as hours rather than arriving as a long-carry fee.
Roseville to Rocklin is one of the short hops
Roughly six miles between the two centres. It clears the five-mile threshold, so the drive is still doubled, but it is a short drive to double. Roseville to Sacramento is a different order of thing and the estimate will show it.
The creeks make a few streets awkward
Dry Creek, Linda Creek, Cirby Creek and Secret Ravine cut through the city, and a handful of properties back onto them with the front door up a flight from the road. Say so when you book; it is half an hour, not a disaster, but it should be in the number.

Do you charge more because Roseville is in Placer County?
No. The hourly rate is the same everywhere we work. The only thing distance changes is the drive time on the clock, and California requires that to be doubled on every hourly local move, whatever the distance — which is the state tariff, not a Placer County surcharge.
Can you move me from Roseville to Sacramento?
Yes, that is a normal day for us. It is around twenty miles, so the driving time is billed twice under Maximum Rate Tariff 4. The estimate spells that out as hours before you book, so there is nothing to argue about at the end.
Do you speak Russian?
Yes. The owner writes the estimates himself in English and Russian, and part of the crew speaks Ukrainian. Greater Sacramento has one of the largest Russian-speaking communities in the country and we are part of it.
How early can you start?
Early is better here in summer, when the valley sits above 100°F for weeks. An early start is easier on the crew and on your furniture, and it finishes the job in fewer billable hours.
