Sacramento is an easy city to move in and an easy one to underestimate. The central grid is flat and the streets are wide, which is the cheapest access a mover can ask for; the older neighbourhoods east and south of it are a different job, with driveways built for one car and mature trees over the kerb that decide where a 26-foot truck can actually stop. We quote the access, not just the address, because that is what turns into hours on the invoice.

The grid is the easy part
Downtown and Midtown are laid out on a numbered and lettered grid with alleys behind most blocks. Where an alley is usable it is usually the fastest way in and out, and it keeps the truck off a street with a bike lane. We check the alley before move day rather than discovering it is gated at eight in the morning.
Older streets, narrower access
East Sacramento, Land Park and Curtis Park have the housing stock people move to this city for, and the access that comes with it: single-width driveways, deep front paths, steps up to a porch, and street trees that limit how close a large truck can park. None of that costs a fee. It costs carry time, and it belongs on the estimate before you book, not in a conversation on the day.
Apartments and the leasing office
Complexes downtown, in Natomas and along the river commonly ask a mover for a certificate of insurance, and some want a lift or a loading zone booked. Give us the complex name when you book and we deal with the office directly, so the paperwork is done before the truck arrives.
Summer means an early start
Sacramento summers run well past 100°F for stretches at a time. We start early on those weeks — often at seven — because a crew that finishes before the heat of the afternoon is a crew that finishes in fewer hours, and hours are what you pay for.
Distances inside the city are real distances
Sacramento covers roughly a hundred square miles, so a move from Natomas to the Pocket is a genuine cross-town drive. That matters here more than it would elsewhere: past five miles the state tariff bills the drive twice, so the mileage between your two addresses is worth getting right on the estimate.
How a move here is charged
One hourly rate with the truck inside it. The minimum is 3 hours of work plus 1 hour of travel — $516 with two movers, at $129 an hour.
California bills that drive twice over — Maximum Rate Tariff 4, Item 36. It applies to every hourly local move, whatever the distance. It is the state tariff rather than our surcharge, and it is on the estimate before you book.

Do you cover all of Sacramento?
Yes — the central grid, East Sacramento, Land Park, Oak Park, Tahoe Park, the Pocket, North and South Natomas, and everything between. If one end of your move is outside the city, that is normal work for us too; the drive time just shows up on the estimate.
Why is the drive time doubled on my estimate?
Because California requires it. Maximum Rate Tariff 4, Item 36, bills loading, unloading and double the driving time between your two addresses once they are five or more miles apart. It is the state tariff, not our surcharge, and a Sacramento cross-town move often clears five miles easily. Under five miles the drive is billed once.
Can you move a piano or a safe?
Usually, and the answer depends on what is between it and the truck rather than on the item. Tell us the piece, the floor it is on and whether there are steps or a turn in the hallway, and we will tell you whether it is a two-person job or a four-person one before you book.
Do you speak Russian?
Yes. The call, the estimate and the paperwork can be in Russian or English, whichever you prefer, and part of the crew speaks Ukrainian. Greater Sacramento has one of the largest Slavic communities in the country and there are still very few movers here who can sort a job out in those languages.
How early can you start?
Seven in the morning is normal in summer and often the right call: cooler, less traffic, and the job finishes inside the day.
