Auburn is the hardest town on this list to move in and the honest reason is geography. It sits in the Sierra foothills about eight hundred feet above the confluence of the American River, and elevation sampled inside the city boundary runs from 545 to 1,574 feet — a thousand feet of relief, more than anywhere else we work. It is also the furthest: about thirty-eight miles from downtown Sacramento, and California requires that drive to be billed twice. Both of those are on the estimate before you book, because finding them out afterwards is how a move goes wrong.

A thousand feet between the low ground and the high
USGS elevation sampled at sixty-five points inside the city boundary runs 545 to 1,574 feet, median 1,311 — the steepest of any town we serve. Driveways here fall away from the road as often as they run level with it, and a loaded dolly on a slope is the single biggest difference between a four-hour job and a six-hour one.
Old Town is twenty-two acres of 1855
The historic district, on the national register since 1970, is roughly bounded by Maple, Commercial, Court, Washington, Spring and Sacramento Streets, and its oldest buildings date from 1855. Streets that narrow, on a hillside, are a shuttle job rather than a 26-foot truck at the door. Tell us the address and we will work out where the truck can stand before the day.
Half the housing is older than 1980
ACS counts 3,365 of 6,446 units built in 1979 or earlier, and 875 of them in 1939 or earlier. Older stock on a slope means narrow stairs, tight landings and doorways cut for smaller furniture. None of that is a fee — it is hours, and it is why we would rather ask about the stairs than guess.
Thirty-eight miles, and the tariff doubles it
Auburn is the furthest town we serve. Item 36 of Maximum Rate Tariff 4 requires the driving time between your two addresses to be billed twice on every hourly local move, so on a run from Sacramento that line is the largest single item after the labour. We put it on the written estimate rather than leaving you to discover it on the invoice.
How a move here is charged
Easy Move Sacramento charges one hourly rate with the truck inside it. You are billed for the loading, the unloading and double the drive between your two addresses, on a 4-hour minimum — $516 with two movers, at $129 an hour.
California bills that drive twice over — Maximum Rate Tariff 4, Item 36. It applies to every hourly local move, whatever the distance. It is the state tariff rather than our surcharge, and it is on the estimate before you book.
Rates: $129 an hour for two movers, $179 for three, $219 for four.
New here, not new to this
We are the Sacramento branch of Easy Move Florida, which has been moving families since 2021 and holds 4.7 on Thumbtack from 33 reviews and 5.0 on Google from 8. Thumbtack publishes a review only against a job booked through it; Google goes by its own genuine-experience policies. Both show every review rather than a chosen few. Those reviews belong to the Easy Move Florida office and to the same owner who will run your move here; Sacramento has just opened, and our own reviews will come from our first jobs in the metro.
Thumbtack →Questions people ask
Is Auburn too far for you?
No, but it is the furthest we go, and we will not pretend the distance is free. About thirty-eight miles from downtown Sacramento, and the state tariff requires the drive between your addresses to be billed twice. The hourly rate is the same as everywhere else; the drive time is what makes an Auburn job cost more than the same job in Roseville.
How much does a move in Auburn cost?
Four billable hours is the minimum, at the hourly rate for your crew size, with the truck inside that rate. Billable time is the loading, the unloading and double the drive between your two addresses. For a move that starts or ends in Sacramento the drive is a real part of the total, and it is shown as its own line on the estimate.
Can a full-size truck reach an Old Town address?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. The historic district is twenty-two acres of streets laid out in the 1850s, on a hillside. Where a 26-foot truck cannot stand safely we bring a smaller one or shuttle from a clear spot — decided in advance from the address, not improvised on the morning.
Do you work in North Auburn as well?
Yes, though it is worth knowing that North Auburn is a separate community from the city of Auburn, not a district of it. Either way it is one booking; give us the street address and we will tell you what the drive adds.
